On January 26-28, I had the opportunity to attend the Oracle Value Chain Summit (VCS) in San Jose, CA. The theme of the event was “Enabling Agents of Change.” Over 2,500 Value Chain experts representing more than 425 companies from 31 countries attended this year's VCS, and the attendees had the chance to hear from thought leaders, practitioners, and executives on a range of business and technology topics across engineering, product development, manufacturing, maintenance, quality management, and more.

I had the pleasure of attending SAP TechEd && d-code several weeks ago for the second time. The theme of the 2014 Emerson Global User Exchange may have been “Inspiring Ingenuity,” but the core message presented over and over was “Reliability is a core business strategy.” In the day-one keynote, Steve Sonnenberg, Executive Vice President of Emerson and President of Emerson Process Management, proposed the concept of reliability as a business strategy, and a board-level one at that.

This year’s CEBOS user conference was a big deal, and not because I had the opportunity to keynote day two. Held at the Greektown Casino in Detroit, MI, September 24–26, the conference was the first opportunity to broadly address the user base regarding the acquisition by QAD and the launch of the new web-based product MQ1 Elements.
Infor held its annual user group meeting, Inforum, in New Orleans during the week of September 15. At this year’s event the focus was on the cloud. As Infor evolved from being a software company that was a collection of acquisitions to a major enterprise software supplier, many questioned how it would harmonize the diverse portfolio of solutions it managed to accumulate. It has become clear that the current management team led by Charles Phillips has been able to lay out and execute against a strategy of focusing on vertical industries and leveraging open technologies and is now growing the business.
