“How do they do it” Volkswagen’s new operation

Manufacturing Geek posted this video of Volkswagen’s newest operations location in Chattanooga, TN. This state-of-the-art manufacturing location was built with sustainability top of mind throughout the entire process, even within transportation. Over 400 robots conserve enough energy to power the average household for two decades, and rain water is repurposed for everything from cooling the robots to flushing the toilets. What do Caterpillar and Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams have in common?

Plex Systems recently held a discussion on the future of manufacturing technology and software. The event included both industry analysts as well as current customers. Tech writer and researcher Den Howlett was in attendance and found the panel of end-users sharing their experience in cloud computing to be quite insightful. Attendees were provided with information from both small and large businesses that have been successful and satisfied with their Plex Systems usage. Howlett provides his interview [below] with the VP of Operations at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, who describes how their business moved into the cloud and has never had an IT department. So what's the verdict? Cloud computing can be easily adapted by small businesses and scalable to accommodate much larger corporations.
