Change, as they say, is the only true constant. Where a manufacturer developing an institute of higher learning for employees may have been in the realm of unthinkable in past decades, Foxconn, the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer, has done just that.

Foxconn has a million workers, making for a high turnover rate and a daily line of hundreds waiting to replace those that have quit the assembly line. China’s largest private employer has developed Foxconn University in order to develop employee skills, knowledge, and income, and ultimately, to decrease turnover. The in-house university offers 25 majors, mostly in engineering, with the ability to receive diplomas at a high school, bachelors, masters, and PhD level. Read more…

The two companies have signed an agreement that outlines their partnership in the construction of a large scale battery manufacturing plant (a Gigafactory) located in the United States. Tesla will be in charge of the building in general, and Panasonic will be responsible for all manufacturing aspects of cells, batteries, and packs for electronic vehicles and charging stations. The business issues being addressed within this partnership are not just cost reduction, but also meeting Telsa’s goals for mass production of electronic vehicles.
