Meridium Users Conference Highlights Next-Gen APM
LNS Research principal analyst Dan Miklovic recaps his visit to the Meridium user conference.
The ESI Group expanded its analysis portfolio with the acquisition of ITI GmbH this past week. The ESI Group, which provides a portfolio of analysis tools such as multi-physics Finite Element Method (FEM), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Big Data Analysis focused on components, assemblies and manufacturing. ITI is a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) platform including multi-physics mathematical modeling, with capability to leverage external FEM and CFD.
Commenting on the acquisition is LNS Research Analyst, Dan Jacob, “While most FEM and CFD vendors require physical models and therefore mature designs, this merger expands ESIs footprint forward in the development process to the concept and system modeling phases, an area of increasing focus as product complexity grows. We’d expect that ESI customers would benefit by using an integral MBSE-FEM-CFD system that is adaptive to the design maturity. Additionally, with some of ESIs other recent acquisitions in Big Data Analytics and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), this positions it well to assist with both smart car development efforts as well as developing IIoT-enabled systems.” To read more on the transaction click here.
Meridium, an organization focused on Asset Performance Management (APM) solutions, has partnered with the University of Tennessee to develop the next-generation of reliability and maintenance engineering.
LNS Principal Analyst, Dan Miklovic commented on the partnership and said, “Progressive technology firms recognize that partnering with academic institutions is good business. Not only do the technology companies benefit from the ability to conduct research that will lead to product improvement, but they create an experienced user community that will prefer their particular solution over others due to the users’ familiarity with the vendor’s technology. Academia benefits as well with access to real-world technology for their students to use and the obvious benefit of financial support. In this regard Meridium’s partnership should serve both Meridium and UT well.” To read more on this click here.
The shock of Internet of Things (IoT) security has gained much attention as hackers took control of a moving Chrysler vehicle. Late December didn’t prove to be much different as Ukraine’s Ivano-Frankivsk region experienced a hacker-influenced blackout.
On December 23rd, the Ivano-Frankivsk region of Ukraine experienced a several hour blackout that left many families in darkness. The misfortunate event was caused by an aggressive cyberattack said iSight, a global cyber threat intelligence company. Instances such as these lead to other disruptions, besides losing power. The effect of losing control of power, or a vehicle, causes many problems within and organization or community. To read more about the aggressive cyberattack and regional disruptions click here.
The decrease in China’s manufacturing has struck fear with many. The slow manufacturing and low demand for goods has cause trouble with the world’s second largest economy.
It was reported in December that the economy continues to fall as the Caixin Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) dropped from 48.6 to 48.2. As oversea demands for products and goods decreases, manufacturing does too. It’s been reported that China has not suffered this badly since the financial crisis in 2009.
