IoT in Commercial Aviation Requires a New Collaboration Standard

Posted by Dan Jacob on Thu, Jul 14, 2016 @ 11:00 AM

During the week following July 4th, two airlines, flydubai and Qantas, announced that they had deployed IoT systems to optimize flight operations. Flydubai is working with GE Aviation/Predix to reduce the impact of unavoidable delays, optimize flight scheduling, and monitor engine health. Qantas took a different approach, working with the University of Sydney to develop a system that optimizes flight paths to reduce fuel consumption and optimize the airline’s operational efficiency.

The Link Between APM & EHS: Sometimes It Isn't So Obvious

Posted by Dan Miklovic on Wed, Mar 23, 2016 @ 10:00 AM

We have published posts linking asset performance management (APM) to safety and operational risk management, and it just seems obvious that poorly maintained equipment leads to poor Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance. Unfortunately, outside of the links between equipment failures and safety incidents, the data that leads to direct evidence of poor maintenance maintenance causing poor environmental performance or worker health is more difficult to come by.

Posted by Dan Miklovic on Thu, Dec 31, 2015 @ 10:45 AM

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me” is a phrase I remember from my childhood that may not be true. One need to look no further than today’s highly charged political environment to see that words can matter. In asset performance management (APM) this is also true.

How to Increase Asset Performance Visibility by Using Metrics

Posted by Jason Kasper on Thu, Dec 03, 2015 @ 10:33 AM

The LNS Research Asset Performance Management (APM) survey has clearly shown by almost 50%, that the number-one goal to improving asset performance within an organization is to have better operational performance.  So, now the questions to ask and discuss are:

  • How do I, as an APM software user, prove that our organizations investments in the APM landscape are working?
  • How do I prove this by providing visibility within the department all the way up at the senior level of the organization to make sure this is the case?

Why APM Is the Current Poster Child for IoT

Posted by Dan Miklovic on Fri, Apr 03, 2015 @ 09:49 AM

With bold market size predictions ranging from $20B to $50B by 2020, it’s perhaps not surprising that the Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the top three most talked about tech topics these days. Carrying the potential promise of the ability to connect every device on earth, it seems, IoT is going to radically transform both our personal and professional lives. Yet LNS Research survey data shows that in manufacturing and asset intensive industries, IoT has not been broadly deployed and future plans are still being discussed.
